Trust
Your data stays yours
Livestock records outlive any one system. These are the commitments we make to the farms, breed societies and institutions whose data runs on Studbrand.
How we work
Name the animal
Every record starts with an identified animal. Without a number, there is nothing to record, register or value.
Your data stays yours
Farms, societies and institutions own their records.
Explain the number
A valuation, a report or a dashboard is only useful if the person reading it understands where it came from.
Fit the farm
Tools have to work where the animals are: on a phone, in the parlour, with patchy network.
Our commitments
You own your data
A breed society owns its herdbook, absolutely and without qualification. A farm owns its herd records. Studbrand is the operator of the platform, never the owner of the data.
Data-export guarantee
On request, you receive a complete export of your data in an open, documented format within 30 days. Always, without penalty or negotiation, including if Studbrand ceases to trade.
Leaving is planned, not punished
Contracts carry a 12-month notice period and an obligation on Studbrand to help migrate your data to whichever system you choose next.
Free access for society members
Members of a breed society using Studbrand Registry can view their animals and registrations at no charge, always.
The society has a say
Each society using the registry has a joint technical committee, chaired by the society, meeting quarterly to review priorities and changes. Significant changes are notified 30 days in advance.
Service levels
For organisations running their records on Studbrand Registry or StudPro under contract.
Service levels are set out in each contract. Where a contract says something different, the contract applies.

Working with national systems
Studbrand complements the national livestock identification and traceability system, ANLITS. It never replaces it or competes with it. Studbrand records carry the official national number as the primary identifier wherever one exists.
Technical documentation on identifier mapping is available on request.
Privacy
We handle personal data in line with the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019. Read our privacy notice for what we collect through this website and how to contact us about your data.
